Embracing Our Sovereignty

Winter 2017

Welcome to the premiere issue of
Boho Woman Magazine!

Twenty-five years ago, in 1992, Ballantine published a book that spent 145 weeks on the New York Times’ bestseller list and metaphorically saved the souls of thousands of women.

This premiere issue of Boho Woman Magazine is dedicated to Women Who Run with the Wolves: Myths and Stories of the Wise Woman Archetype and Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estés. She gave us the courage to reclaim our wild self, “the one and only true sovereign in a woman’s life.”

The Winter 2017 theme is Embracing Our Sovereignty. Midlife brings new challenges for a woman in search of her wild self. What does it mean to embrace our sovereignty now?

We’ll explore art, myth, fashion, decor, and Goddess spirituality for answers.

Under ANIMA, we examine the cherished archetype of Maiden-Mother-Crone. Not ready to declare yourself a Crone yet? You’re not alone. Some women have embraced a fourth midlife phase—The Queen. But we have many choices!

A sovereign woman’s home is truly her castle. In ABODE, we visit the magical haciendas of Mexico and watch a grand old chateau return to life.

In ADORNMENT, we look at how Frida Kahlo’s fashion style expressed her being and how Oscar Wilde encouraged Victorian women to rebel against the corset (which, ironically, Frida needed to wear to for medical reasons).

The ARTISTRY of midlife flamenco dancers knows no equal. You’ll love meeting the gypsy queens of this magnificent culture. We also decode an alchemical message from a female Pre-Raphaelite painter.

What can GODDESS LORE tell us about embracing our sovereignty? To find out, we trace the sacred origins of money, the true story of Santa’s reindeer, and the tradition of women blacksmiths.

We also celebrate the impact of Women Who Run with the Wolves and look at the MYTH behind the enigmatic Queen of Sheba.

And finally, in February, we return to ANIMA with Joanne Powell Colbert’s Gaian Tarot. More than any deck, Joanne’s cards depict the many faces of a sovereign woman’s midlife.

Boho Woman’s articles coincide with the New and Full Moons. You’ll find the full publishing schedule on the home page and at the bottom of each feature. Our book club will launch in January 2018 with excerpts from Women Who Run with the Wolves.

I so enjoyed researching and writing this issue for you. May it bring much pleasure and inspiration. Let’s make. midlife. magic!

Warmly,
